Daniel High

Economic Development Manager, City of Perth

Smart city case study

Daniel has an extensive background in large scale urban revitalisation and place making projects having worked at the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority for more than seven years in a variety of roles including Business Services, Governance and Place Management.

His initial exposure to technology and smart city applications came through the project management and ongoing operation of a suite of technology and engagement infrastructure in the Perth Cultural Center including large scale intelligent lighting upgrades and a public 36sqm LED screen with associated content systems which delivered an array of interactive community engagement projects.

Having seen the impact that the right use of technology and engagement can have in making better places and smarter cities in a social, economic and environmental sense this knowledge and experience is now being applied to the smart city framework and proof of concept projects at the City of Perth.

The City of Perth was successful in being nominated as an IBM Smarter City Challenge City in 2014 - this has provided the ideal baseline for Perth to advance its smart city platform.
